It's funny how they use puns in the whole series (they're usually in bad taste, but it never fails to put a smirk on a face or two.) to make names for islands, forests, etc. but that's not why I'm blogging about this particular anime.
To give you a brief background of the said Shonen Jump's potential wave maker, Toriko is a bishoukuya (ingredient-collecting specialist) who's travelling all across the world in search of the best ingredients to add to his full-course menu. He searches high and low with his friend, Komatsu (5-star restaurant chef), for the best ingredients the world has to offer.
--------------------------------------------------
I've been following this series for quite a while now, and at first, I only thought of it as a senseless anime filled with fighting, eating, shouting, and drooling. Having said that, I was attracted to this series because of three things
1.) I like fighting shows (I used to train vigorously in Martial Arts)
2.) I love food (I happen to like cooking)
3.) Toriko's so friggin' GAR (I dream of reaching his epicness)
But as the story progresses, I'm coming to love this series more and more because I've been learning and re-learning a lot of things about food and life.
As much as I'd want to spoil some parts, I'd rather not because it would ruin a bit of your viewing pleasure. I will, however, get a quote from an episode that I really liked and it went something like this, "If you think that the chef chooses his ingredients to make great food, then it means you've got half a way to go." One can take this quote literally, or use it as a base ingredient for your main dish to success~~ Either way, you get to feed your thoughts and satisfy your palate for knowledge in life
There are lessons to be learned and kept at heart. Some of which you can find at the unlikeliest of places.
